Flow visualisation in real-size optical injectors of conventional, additised, and renewable gasoline blends

Research on renewable and alternative fuels is crucial for improving the energy environmental efficiency of modern gasoline internal combustion engines. To highlight influence fuel rheological thermodynamic properties phase change atomisation processes, three types blends were tested. More specifically, campaign comprised a reference gasoline, an ethanol/gasoline blend (10% v/v) representative fuels, additised sample treated with viscoelasticity-inducing agents. High-speed imaging transient two-phase flow field arising in geometry near-nozzle spray region injectors was performed employing Diffuse Backlight Illumination. The metallic body commercial injector modified to fit transparent tips realising two nozzle layouts, namely two-hole real size model resembling Engine Combustion Network G enraged replica offset hole. Experiments conducted at realistic operating conditions comprising injection pressure 100 bar ambient pressures range 0.1–6.0 cover entire chamber prevailing Gasoline Direct Injection action viscoelastic additives verified have suppressive effect in-nozzle cavitation (6% reduction extent) , while also enhancing flash-boing conditions, manner more volatile gasoline/ethanol blends. Finally, persisting liquid ligaments found form after end sample, owing surfactant nature additives.
